Read more about why Thailand is one of the world’s best filming locations.
1. Mother of the Bride (2024)
Phuket, located in southern Thailand, served as the primary filming location for the Netflix rom-com “Mother of the Bride.” The island’s stunning scenery and diverse landscapes provided the perfect backdrop for the film. The producers showcased Phuket’s renowned beaches, including Patong Beach, Kata Beach, and the secluded Laem Singh Beach, accessible only by boat.
These picturesque spots were ideal for the movie’s romantic scenes and beach parties. Additionally, the filmmakers captured the vibrant essence of Phuket’s Old Town, with its blend of Sino-Portuguese architecture and colorful shops, adding an authentic Thai charm to the scenes.
2. Meg 2 (2023)
Much of the final act of “Meg 2: The Trench” was filmed in Phuket, Thailand. This southern province, home to the country’s largest island (also named Phuket) and many smaller islands, provided an ideal setting for the movie’s climax. The scenes set at the fictional resort of Fun Island, where terrifying creatures attack Jonas’s team, the mercenaries, and the tourists, were captured on the stunning beaches of Phuket.
3. The Creator (2023)
Approximately 60-70 different locations were utilized for “The Creator.” For instance, the extended wooden bridge where the big tank battle was filmed is located in Mon Village, Sangkhlaburi, on a river outside Bangkok. Additionally, scenes were shot at Bangkok International Airport and a train terminal in Bangkok. The IMPACT Arena, Exhibition and Convention Center in Muang Thong Thani served as the interior of NOMAD—those scenes where Alphie runs through sleek white hallways were captured there. What sets this movie apart is the commitment to using real locations. Typically, for a sci-fi hallway, one would construct it on a soundstage. However, due to budget and timing constraints, real locations with futuristic aesthetics were sought out and used as they were.

In the 2016 film “Gold,” viewers are whisked away to the lush landscapes of Indonesia’s jungle, where Matthew McConaughey’s character embarks on a quest for riches. However, behind the scenes, Thailand’s captivating scenery played a vital role in bringing this adventure to life.
The production team strategically utilized Thailand’s natural wonders, such as Chiang Mai’s verdant forests and Khao Sok National Park’s rugged terrain, to depict the untamed wilderness of Indonesia. With its misty mountains and winding rivers, Chiang Mai set the stage for Kenny Wells’ desperate search for gold, while Khao Sok’s ancient rainforests added an element of danger to the characters’ journey.
